Altered Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Spruce
acetylated galactoglucomannan (AcGGM), enabling this raw material to be utilized in the synthetic design of new classes of materials. Based on the chemical modification of the hydroxyl groups with crosslinkable groups in combination with the naturally high hydrophilicity, synthetic pathways for the production of functional hydrogels are presented. The galactoglucomannan (GGM) extraction was evaluated on the basis of weight-average molecular weight (MW), yield and carbohydrate composition of the GGM. The MW was determined by size-exclusion chromatography with column calibration using off-line MALDI-MS analysis, and determination of mannan content in the fractions collected.
